About Us:
The Parliamentary
Commission of Uganda serves the following functions;
  • To appoint,
    promote and exercise disciplinary control over persons holding public
    office in Parliament;
  • To review the
    terms and conditions of service, standing orders, training and
    qualifications  of persons holding office in Parliament;
  • To provide a
    Parliamentary reporting service;
  • To provide such
    other staff and facilities as are required to ensure efficient functioning
    of the Parliament;
  • To cause to be
    prepared in each financial year, estimates of revenue and expenditure for
    the next financial year; and
  • To make
    recommendations to Parliament, or with the approval of Parliament,
    determine the allowances payable and privileges available to the Speaker
    and Members of Parliament.
Job Summary: The Information &
Public Education Officer will gather news and information on Parliament for
dissemination and broadcast
Key Duties &
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the research and documentation
    functions in the department
  • Liaise with public and private organizations
    for acquisition of news and 
    information vital to parliamentary committees
  • Coordinate media accreditation and other
    activities of the UPPA at Parliament and produce scripts for the media
    houses as required
  • Write articles for publication in newspaper
    columns an generate and respond to FAQs on the website and any other
    information requests
  • Develop radio and television talk show
    schedules
  • Prepare and provide the content / information
    for posting on the Parliament website, anti update information on the
    electronic notice board
  • Generate content for brochures and guidebooks
    as well as manage the production of the Parliamentary newsletter and other
    publications
  • Prepare information kits for use during public
    education programmes
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned
    from time. 
Qualifications, Skills &
Experience:
  • The applicant should possess an Honours
    Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism and Communication, or
    an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree with Communication and Public Relations
    studied as subjects from a recognized University/Institution 
  • Good writing skills
  • Good oral communication and public speaking
    skills
  • Ability to work well with the media
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work for long hours with minimum
    supervision
