Job Summary: The Financial
Controller will;
  • Manage the accounting activities of AIRTEL
    Implement financial accounting recording, reporting and control
    mechanisms.
  • Ensure that AIRTEL’s financial reporting, both
    externally and internally, are in line with best practice, group reporting
    guidelines, Annual Operating Plan (A0P), Airtel Centre of Excellence (ACE)
    and IFRS, and local regulations and legislation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement and maintain all necessary accounting
    policies and systems, ensuring that records are maintained in accordance
    with IFRS.
  • Ensure the quality, consistency and of monthly
    reporting in a timely fashion
  • Prepares monthly financial closing according to
    IFRS, legal requirements and Hyperion
  • Prepare and submit Management Financial Reports
    i.e. Annual Statutory Financial Statements
  • Contribute to the formulation of AIRTEL annual
    budget (AOP) and implementation
  • Report year-end figures and liaise with
    external auditors, in order to enable AIRTEL and the AIRTEL Group to
    fulfill external reporting obligations
  • Lead the preparation of the statutory financial
    statement and ensure compliance with the law and the Generally Accepted
    Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Lead the Channel accounting team and ensure
    zero bad debts in prepaid, post-paid, roaming, interconnect and staff
    receivables
  • Manage .motivate, and develop staff within the
    section
  • Ensure timely closure of Audit SAD/SUD
  • Ensure that any issues raised during the
    quarterly, annual and internal audits are closed in a timely manner
  • Ensure that AIRTEL are compliant with all tax
    legislations as stipulated by the law.l
Qualifications, Skills
& Experience:
  • The applicant should hold a University degree
    (Finance, Economics or similar)
  • Be a qualified accountant (CFA, ACCA, CIMA,
    CPA, or similar professional qualifications
  • At least seven years of industry track record
    mostly gained in international, blue chip environments
  • Three years in a similar position in a FMCG
    environment, Telecom experience is highly preferable
  • At least three years’ experience in related
    work
  • Hands on knowledge of Financial accounting and
    reporting packages
  • Experience in emerging/ developing countries
  • Group accounting policies and procedures
  • International Financial Reporting Standards
    (IFRS)
  • Good understanding of reporting processes
  • Strong ethics, hands on approach, business
    acumen
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong coaching skills
  • Sets high personal standards and is goal
    oriented
