Client, National Housing and Construction Company Limited (NHCC) is a 48 year
old limited liability company jointly owned by the Governments of Uganda and
Libya. Its mission is to provide adequate and affordable housing for all in
Uganda; and the vision is “to transform people’s lives and communities by
providing affordable and well-built housing.”
Job Summary: The Company Secretary
will be responsible for:
  • Provide legal advice to the Company (Board and
    Management) with a view to enhancing efficient observance of legal
    provisions in all Commercial management and administrative undertakings.
  • Provide secretarial services to the Board of
    Directors
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide
    secretarial services to the Board of Directors
  • Report to the
    CEO on business operations and to the Board on Board matters
  • Secretary to the
    Board and Management.
  • Provide reliable
    and authoritative advice on the legal implications of the policies, plans,
    operations and indeed, all relevant transactions of the Company.
  • Develop,
    implements and controls the delivery of legal support services to the
    Board, the Senior Management Team and any other Officers of the Company.
  • Ensure that the
    Company’s commercial, contractual and other legal interests are adequately
    protected.
  • Brief and manage
    any external legal representatives of the Company.
  • Pursue the
    Company’s debtors as advised by Finance Department and ensures collection
    of outstanding debts.
  • Develop and
    coach staff and regularly appraises them.
  • Perform any
    other duties assigned by the Board of Directors and the Chief Executive
    Officer. 
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The applicant
    should hold a Masters degree in Law or a related field.
  • LLB Degree from
    a recognized University with a Postgraduate Diploma in legal
    practice.  Should be an advocate with a practicing certificate.
  • Must hold full professional
    qualification of Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators.
  • At least seven
    (7) years experience in legal and board affairs of large public or
    commercial organisations.
  • Successful track
    record in dealing with Board governance 
Personal Attributes:
  • A mature and
    principled person with high level of integrity
  • Flexible open
    minded and able to work with both the Board and Management.
  • Has excellent
    report writing ability.
  • Must be a
    regular user of computers.
  • Strong Team
    player
Contract terms and
Remuneration
: These are high positions with competitive terms and the incumbent will
be offered a three year renewable contract.
