National
Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) a leading organisation in the Water
sector in Uganda with a Vision “To be a leading Water Utility in the World.”
NWSC is a utility parastatal 100% owned by The Government of Uganda. It was
established in 1972 under decree No: 34. The mandate of the Corporation as
defined in the National Water & Sewerage Corporation Statute of 1995,
Section 5 (1), is to operate and provide water and sewerage services in areas
entrusted to it, on a sound, commercial and viable basis. The NWSC operations
were initially in three towns of Kampala, Jinja, and Entebbe.
Job Summary: The job holders will
be responsible for administering, organizing and supervising all activities of
the Static Plant mechanical section to ensure maximum availability of the
Corporation static plants in a good state of maintenance and at economic costs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop appropriate maintenance strategy for
    all electro- mechanical equipment.
  • Supervise the implementation of a planned
    maintenance scheme for all static plants.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all works/tasks
    undertaken.
  • Respond quickly to all electro-mechanical
    breakdowns in the plants.
  • Actively participate in multi-disciplinary team
    activities.
  • Carry out Bi-annual condition Assessment of
    Electro-mechanical equipment and professionally and advise on the need
    interventions.
  • Provide leadership and Technical backup to the
    maintenance section on all assigned tasks.
  • Prepare sectional monthly and situation
    specific reports
  • Develop appropriate maintenance strategy for
    all electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Ensure safety of staff and equipments in their
    sections.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The applicant should hold a Bsc. Mechanical
    Engineering.
  • The candidate must have at least 2 years hands
    on experience in plant maintenance in either water industry or similar
    setting.
  • The candidate must also be computer literate.
  • Should possess high levels of initiative,
    commitment to work, ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal
    skills with the ability to listen and identify solutions to problems.
  • Should be good team player highly motivated and
    capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Possess the ability to train and mentor others.
