sector in Uganda with a Vision “To be a leading Water Utility in the World.”
NWSC is a utility parastatal 100% owned by The Government of Uganda. It was
established in 1972 under decree No: 34. The mandate of the Corporation as
defined in the National Water & Sewerage Corporation Statute of 1995,
Section 5 (1), is to operate and provide water and sewerage services in areas
entrusted to it, on a sound, commercial and viable basis. The NWSC operations
were initially in three towns of Kampala, Jinja, and Entebbe.

Job Summary: The Engineers will
be responsible for Area technical operations including the water
treatment plant, water production, water distribution, treatment & quality
monitoring, field supervision of consultants and contractors during execution
of stage capital works development programs, proper planning and design of
water and sewerage systems upgrade and expansion and supervise delegated
Technical works.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for effective and efficient running
of the water treatment plant, water distribution and sewerage services - Monitor the treatment processes, optimize
chemical use & pumpage and ensure that water quality meets National
Standards. - Identify water and sewerage development and
extension needs in NWSC operational areas and make recommendations for
capital improvements for inclusion in the fiscal budgets. - Contribute to the development of concept notes
and terms of reference for the development of water and sewerage
infrastructure. - Develop and maintain design standards and
specifications for water and sewerage systems and ensure conformity. - Reviews and approves water and sewerage system
plans and designs submitted by consulting engineering firms and or/NWSC
Area engineers for water and sewerage upgrading and expansion. - Identify technical problems on site, recommend
corrective action and ensure that site problems and defects in works under
construction are timely and properly addressed. - Monitor the performance of contractors and
consultants on site and provide appropriate feedback to the supervisors. - Advise designers on the practical aspects of
engineering installations, to ensure the soundness and practicality of
design proposals - Prepare schedules of defects and to certify
rectification of snagging items for projects.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The applicants should hold an upper second
degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from a recognized University.
- Be familiar with geographic information
systems. Familiarity with Arc View and AutoCAD preferred. - Membership with other Engineering professional
bodies is added advantage. - Computer knowledge and hands on experience is a
prerequisite. - One (1) year’s relevant working experience.
Personal Competencies:
- Possess high levels of
initiative, commitment to work, ability to meet tight deadlines. - Excellent
communications and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and
identify solutions to problems. - Should be good team
player highly motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision. Ability to train and mentor others.
