About Us:
The
Government of Uganda is to implement the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP),
under the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development (MGLSD). The overall
objective of the Programme is to address the escalating problem of Youth
Unemployment in Uganda.

Job Summary: The Communication Officer Number will offer communication
support to the programme by ensuring that comprehensive timely information is
provided to all stakeholders through appropriate media channels.

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Develop,
implement and periodically review the programme Communication Strategy. - Annually plan
and budget for the programme Communication and Public Relations function. - Draw-up and
implement annual communication workplans for the Programme - Initiate and
maintain mutual media relations for positive media coverage of the
Programme - Develop,
implement and periodically review tools for internal programme
communication. - Develop,
implement and periodically review alternative media tools for educating
external stakeholders about the Programme - Organise
Press Conferences in consultation with the Public Relations Officer.
viii.Prepare, edit and disseminate Press Release and media articles - Design, edit
and disseminate programme Information, Education and Communication (IEC)
materials, i.e. newsletters, booklets, inserts, calendars, posters and
branded corporate wear/souvenirs. - Arrange,
facilitate and participate in the programmes live and pre-recorded media
programmes in consultation with the Public Relations Officer. - Collect, edit
and preview materials for the programme website. - Organize
meetings with stakeholders and prepare schedules, talking points and
reports for the same. - Arrange for
participation in out-door activities for special events e.g. exhibitions
and open-days for anniversaries like International Youth Day. - Support the
Public Relations Officers on matters to do with the YLP. - Perform any
other relevant duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The
candidates must be Ugandans possessing the following:- an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Mass
Communication/ Journalism form a recognized institution. - A
Postgraduate qualification in Communications, Media and or Public
Relations would be an added advantage. - Three or more
years’ experience in a related field. - Should
demonstrate solid verbal and writing skills - A confident
personality, go-together with good interpersonal and persuasive skills - Solid
knowledge of publishing and on-line communication software packages - Proven
extensive networks within the media fraternity at various levels - A good
aptitude and ability to work at own initiative under tight dead-lines - Flexibility,
ability to multi-task and work innovatively - Ability to
feely interact with and influence people at various levels - Computer
knowledge is a must.
