About ULA:
Uganda
Land Alliance is a consortium of International and National NGO’s and
Individuals focusing on land, promotion of land rights and protecting the
interests of the poor, vulnerable and marginalized through “Enhancing
civic participation in land governance and resource management country wide.”
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
  • The Gender
    Officer will be part of a highly efficient and motivated team. This
    position will be involved in programme development; co-ordination of
    capacity and movement building initiatives, strategic workshops and
    consultations; resource development; maintaining and building partnerships
    particularly with Women’s Land rights, conflict and peace activists
  • Develop and
    Support ULA’s Women’s land rights initiatives relevant to the area of
    operation.
  • Develop and
    support the campaigns and advocacy work of the Women’s Initiatives on land
    through co-ordination and facilitation with partners and allies;
  • Coordinate
    regular communication with partners and allies in the area of operation
  • Research and
    contribute to publications of ULA particularly to publications on gender
    and land, regular e-letters (Women’s Voices), articles and expert papers;
  • Contribute to
    the organisation of ULA’s national events, and local movement and
    constituency building work;
  • Contribute to
    the Women’s Initiatives gender justice monitoring strategies in relation
    to the legal system;
  • Contribute to
    the Women’s Initiatives programmes on reparations and advocacy on land
  • Support
    programmes and strategies to raise awareness on women’s rights to land
    amongst a range of movements and networks;
  • Coordinate
    the recruitment and activities of Programme Interns in the area of
    operation
  • Engage in
    broader ULA programme and administration initiatives like fundraising
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The applicant
    should hold a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Women’s
    Studies, Political Science, Arts and Law.
  • Minimum 5
    years employment in the field of women’s human rights and gender equality
    or direct involvement in the integration of gender issues in a land
    related field and the justice sector.
  • Experience
    working at national and local levels including working within the NGO
    sector and a strong background in initiating and implementing programmes.
  • Strong
    research and writing skills;
  • Well
    developed analytical skills and the ability to absorb information quickly;
  • Highly
    organized, reliable attention to detail and ability to work independently
    when needed;
  • Excellent
    communication and inter-personal skills, and the ability to establish and
    maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners,
    external actors and allies.
  • Advanced
    computer skills;
  • Ability to
    work under-pressure, meet deadlines, prioritize workload and ‘multitask’;
  • Mature work
    practices, highly motivated, demonstrated sound judgment and the ability
    to respond positively to mentoring and direction
