About MFPED:
The Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic
Development (MFPED) has received funding from UNDP, under the project
“Strengthening the Capacity for Evidence-Based Analytical Studies that
Promote Human Development and the MDGs in Uganda”, to support the
activities of the Economic Development Policy and Research Department
(EDP&RD).
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
  • Offering advice and
    support on the design and overall management of the capacity development,
    policy research and dissemination programme.
  • Undertaking quantitative
    analysis of available household survey data to examine socio-economic
    trends in the country.
  • Examining economic,
    social and institutional obstacles to poverty-reducing growth using both
    econometric and economy-wide modelling techniques.
  • Evaluating the macro and
    micro-economic impacts of recent Government Policies and Programmes.
  • Building the capacity of
    Ministry staff members in econometric techniques and other methods of
    quantitative analysis and research.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The candidate should
    possess a Masters degree in Development Economics, Economics and statistics,
    or Quantitative Economics.
  • A minimum of three (3)
    years of relevant work experience in research and policy-related analysis
    at the national or international level.
  • Strong competences in modern
    econometric techniques.
  • Proficiency in the use
    and application of STATA for statistical data analysis is a must and will
    be tested at interview stage.
  • Good working knowledge of
    other advanced software programmes for statistical data analysis would be
    an asset (e.g. EViews, SPSS).
  • Expertise in interpreting
    and analysing macroeconomic data (such as national accounts, aid, fiscal,
    monetary, balance of payments, debt and foreign exchange), including
    drawing out the implications for growth and poverty.
  • Practical knowledge of
    Computational General Equilibrium analysis.
  • Experience in the use of
    the Maquette for MDG Simulations (MAMS) model would be an added advantage.
