The Google.org Access
Development team’s objective is to bring broadband to emerging markets in a
financially sustainable and scalable way to impact hundreds of millions of
people. The group focuses on developing business models, regulation and
technology to support these goals. There is a strong emphasis on bringing new
technologies or new ways to use technologies to solve the access challenges in
these markets. As a member of the team, you will be responsible for defining
and implementing access projects in emerging markets, as well as identifying
and incubating promising technological solutions.
As a member of the team, you
will provide sales and management support for some of these projects.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support local and remote management
    teams with reporting standards and operational excellence.
  • Drive project execution and sales.
  • Perform analysis and research to build a
    compelling case for projects that will motivate executives.
  • Work collaboratively with remote teams
    and network deployment projects in developing markets including
    sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Identify/evaluate opportunities.
  • Develop insightful recommendations on
    strategic direction and specific project opportunities that can move the
    needle in bringing broadband to emerging markets.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant should possess a Bachelor’s
    degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business or equivalent
    practical experience.
  • B2B sales experience in the
    telecommunications industry.
  • MBA or graduate degree in a management,
    technical or engineering field.
  • Current on wireless or wireline
    telecommunications technology and industry or public policy, particularly
    in Uganda and East Africa. Knowledge should include 3G/4G backhaul
    technologies and fiber optics networks.
  • Proven track record of successful high
    level customer engagements.
  • Proven ability to handle ambiguity, work
    collaboratively with internal and partner contacts, influence
    cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to perform research on and
    assist with execution on several time-sensitive projects at once in a fast
    paced environment with minimal direction
  • Distinctive analytical skills and
    superior ability to present to executives and communicate with highly
    technical management team.
Area
The Access Strategy Team drives
the access strategy for Google, seeking the creation of more and faster
broadband pipes, preserving the openness of the wired Internet and bringing the
open ethos of the wired Internet to the wireless world. In partnership with
teams across the company, the team develops products, makes strategic
investments and influences public policy to achieve these goals.
