Retrak NGO Jobs – Uganda Country Director

Job Summary: The Country Director shall provide overall leadership, strategic
direction and operational management in line with Retrak’s vision, mission statement,
values, and strategic priorities as outlined in Retrak’s Strategic Plan.
The Country Director will through the effective
management of staff and resources, achieve the organisation’s mission of a
world where no child is forced to live on the street. The post also includes
the responsibility to deepen understanding and awareness in the public domain
of the struggles and successes of street children by working with families and communities.
The post holder is expected to increase Retrak’s profile at Country level
through representation to external actors and advocacy on behalf of street
children.
The Country Director will ensure that Retrak Uganda
operates within the recommended practice for safeguarding children in its care
at all times. The Country Director will monitor and review policies, procedures
and safeguarding measures for children accessing our provision.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant should hold
    a degree in Social Work, Social Sciences or child Psychology or related field.
    A Masters (or postgraduate certificate) degree in management / administration
    or finance would be advantageous.
  • At least five years
    experience of working in a senior programme management role in either a
    children’s field or an international aid / development agency.
  • Proven track record in a
    social work (or related e.g. youth work) context working to the highest
    standards with children in the areas of resettlement, foster care and/or
    child development.
  • Significant experience of
    managing grants from institutions such as USAID, ECHO, Comic Relief, ESF,
    NRF, ERDF. A track record of having developed successful relationships
    with donors, government bodies, other (I)NGOs.
  • A track record of
    successfully managing local partners delivering programmes for your
    organisation.
  • In-depth and breadth of
    expertise in programme and project design, programme development,
    delivery, management, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Demonstrable experience
    in managing finance systems.
  • Experience of managing
    human resource systems for of a team of national and international staff
    from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Possess the requisite
    skill, compassion and passion to address the needs and challenges of
    working with street children.
  • Ability to integrate your
    knowledge of child development into interventions and programmes that lead
    to the successful resettlement and foster care placement of street
    children.
  • Ability to lead a diverse
    team and provide high quality supervision, line management and support to
    staff.
  • Possess the ability to
    delegate to staff that creates a positive and innovative working
    environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal,
    influencing and communication skills.
  • An aptitude for contract
    negotiation and management.
  • Excellent written, verbal
    and presentation skills.
  • Have an active and
    vibrant Christian faith.
  • Resolute and committed to
    attention to detail and to achieving high quality standards of care for Street
    Children. Be proactive in pursuing this within Retrak.
  • Analytical mindset, with
    the ability to be creative and innovative.
  • Be results orientated
    with energy and drive to provide the highest standard of care to street
    children.
  • Ability to network and
    form positive relationships with a wide of range of internal and external
    stakeholders.
  • A team player and have a
    desire to learn and be stretched in new areas.
  • Have a desire to coach
    those around you in order that they reach their potential.
