DFCU Limited was
started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of the United Kingdom
and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC)
under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda Limited. Later
restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International Finance Corporation
(IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25% stake in the
company. Its objective was to support long-term development projects whose
financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing financial
commercial lending institutions.
Job Summary: The Senior
Software Developer will manage, guide and direct a small team of developers
responsible for coming up with software solutions, design and develop software
within permitted timelines and to the required standards, to support the
preparation of technical documentation, document, and evaluate a variety of
computer systems, offer product support and training to staff and embrace new
software development technologies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Guide junior system developers with code
    reviews, design reviews and unit test plan reviews; 
  • Perform technical project management
    roles; 
  • Oversee and participate in the development
    and unit testing of solutions as specified in the technical design and
    obtain code reviews from appropriate technical staff and ensure that
    standards, policies and best practices are adhered to;
  • Coordinate software staff development
    programs;
  • Plan and Budget for software and IT
    requirements of the software development team.
  • Ensure that Software and IT licenses are
    valid in order to ensure continuity of operations; 
  • Present to the software development team
    ideas, innovations, needs and challenges; 
  • Provide training and advice as required to
    users and IT staff on information systems to ensure that they make the
    best use of those systems; 
  • Establish lines of control for current and
    proposed information systems; 
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate should possess seven
    or more years experience in Software Development with 5 years of Database
    management. 
  •  The applicant should hold a Bachelor’s degree in
    Computer Science or Information technology or related fields from a recognized
    University. Possession of professional internationally recognized
    certifications in database administration (such as OCP or MCDBA) and/or
    software development (in areas such as Java) will be an added advantage.      
  •  J2EE, MySQL, Oracle, XML and JSON,C#      
  • Experience of using Software development
    methodologies.
  • Good team player, self-driven, excellent
    interpersonal, analytical, verbal and written communication skills.        
  •  Target driven and MUST meet monthly and
    quarterly software deliverables. 
  • Possess Project management skills.  
  • Proven written and oral communication skills;
    excellent interpersonal and strong negotiation skills.
  • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed with
    Strong leadership and team building skills.
  • Analytical and Inquisitive with excellent
    attention to detail.
