Northeast and Kampala. Our advisory services in agriculture, renewable energy
and water, sanitation & hygiene are tailored for specific organisations and
districts. The Agri-ProFocus Uganda network believes that primary
producers are the key to local economic growth, sustainable agri-food systems,
and food security for all. The network convenes stakeholders from the private
and public sector and civil society that are committed to work with
entrepreneurial farmers. The mission of Agri-ProFocus Uganda is to coordinate,
broker and create spaces and opportunities for multi–stakeholder action, learning
and debate. Over three years in existence the network is recognized nationally
as the port of call for professionals and organisations promoting farmer
entrepreneurship. With an active online platform (2000 professional members)
and a regular calendar of local stakeholder initiated activities Agri-ProFocus
Uganda is contributing to innovation, business deals and policy changes in the
sector to benefit farmer entrepreneurship.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1.      Agri-ProFocus
coordinator (60%):
  • Provide leadership for the Agri-ProFocus
    Uganda network, and coordinate the implementation of its 4 year strategy
    (2013 – 2016);
  • Planning, monitoring and reporting to
    financiers, members and other stakeholders. This includes financial
    administration, according to Agri-ProFocus guidelines and with support
    from SNV as the host organization;
  • Secretary for the local steering
    committee, responsible for coordinating meetings, ensuring the successful
    recording of the meeting minutes and maintaining the records for all the deliberations;
  • Establish strong working relationships
    with government, businesses, bilateral and multilateral actors, NGOs and
    knowledge institutes. The collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of
    the Netherlands (EKN) is of special interest;
  • Facilitate the development of an effective
    knowledge sharing and cooperation culture among members with the overall
    aim of supporting the promotion of farmer entrepreneurship. Thus the
    coordinator facilitates leadership building among members to lead
    innovation communities;
  • Represent the country network in
    international Agri-ProFocus meetings and other (regional and national)
    relevant forums and meetings. Facilitate learning within the country;
  • Develop new partnerships and write
    proposals for additional funding for Agri-ProFocus activities in
    Uganda.   
2.     SNV
Agriculture advisor (40%)
  • Delivery of advisory services to different
    actors in the value chain:  producer group and service provider
    strengthening, market intelligence, inclusive business models, financial brokering,
    evidence-based advocacy that promotes an enabling legal and policy
    environment;
  • Lead and coach teams of SNV advisors and
    local capacity builders;  
  • Business development: design
    inclusive agribusiness programme proposals and develop new
    partnerships;     
  • Knowledge development: steer learning from
    practice, publish best practices and contribute to a wider knowledge
    agenda at
    national and international level. 
 Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The hob holder should possess a master’s
    degree or equivalent in agribusiness, rural development or related fields;
  • A minimum of at least eight (8) years of
    relevant working experience in agriculture value chain development and
    inclusive agribusiness.
  • Experience in livestock/dairy,
    horticulture or oilseeds will be an advantage;  
  • Demonstrated experience in programme
    design, proposal writing, international donor  and private investor
    relationship management;
  • Proven experience with project planning,
    monitoring, evaluation, reporting and financial management;
  • Proven experience in capacity building,
    empowerment, facilitation of multi-stakeholder processes, organisational
    learning and managing change processes;
  • Proven experience in knowledge development
    and evidence based advocacy;
  • Extensive knowledge of the playing field
    of the Dutch Agri-ProFocus members and stakeholders;
  • Deep personal commitment and passion to
    social and economic development that recognizes women and smallholder
    farmers as critical actors;  
  • A self-motivated achiever with excellent
    leadership, teamwork, coaching, communication, networking and
    organisational skills.
