Heifer International, a
not-for-profit organization founded in 1944 in the United States of America,
works with resource constrained families in 125 countries worldwide to develop
innovative solutions to the underlying causes of hunger, poverty and
environmental degradation. Heifer International Uganda since 1982 works closely
with communities and invests in local capacity, knowledge transfer, appropriate
technology and farming capital such as livestock and other agricultural inputs
and resources using unique innovative approaches to pro-poor sustainable
livelihoods development that builds social capital and creates social justice.
HI currently operates 19 projects in 68 districts of Uganda, with over 65% of
the supported projects dominated by women. Heifer International Uganda with
support from HIVOs, ABPP and SNV are implementing a five-year Domestic Biogas
Programme aim to improve the livelihoods and quality of life of rural
households in Uganda through the exploitation of market and non-market benefits
of domestic biogas such as replacement of unsustainable utilization of wood and
charcoal for cooking and lighting; use of the high value organic fertilizer
from the bio-slurry; and improvement of health and development conditions for
rural households. This five-year grant is being extended by the Dutch
Government through HIVOs and the programme targets to support construction of
12,000 domestic biogas installations in Uganda.
Job
Summary:
The Regional
Biogas Engineer will primarily lend a hand to masons and Biogas Construction
Enterprises to construct plants according to quality standards;
Key
Duties and Responsibilities:
·        
Regularly
check Biogas plants both under construction and or finished to verify quality
standards;
·        
Assist
in domestic biogas awareness & promotion activities e.g. end-user
trainings;
·        
Maintain
good relations with program stakeholders and implementing partners in the
region; ensure that administrative & financial procedures are correctly
applied and accurate data is provided; supervise other UDBP regional staff on a
day to day basis and ensure smooth functionality of the office.
·        
Production
of quality biogas plants, Quality Control and management, Capacity building for
masons, supervisors and BCEs; and Partner Performance Management in the
assigned region.

Qualifications,
Skills and Experience:
·        
The
job holder should possess a Degree in civil, environmental, agricultural or
mechanical engineering fields from a recognized institution, 3 years practical
hands-on experience in an engineering field, a Post-graduate Diploma in Project
Management, Enterprise Development, applied research will be an added
advantage.
·        
Ability
to execute multiple tasks;
·        
Leadership
and team building skills, Stress management and time management, Computer
skills, collaboration and networking, supervision, report writing,
presentation, ability to communicate via: email, instant messenger as required.
·        
Good
Communication Skills (oral and written English), Team leadership, Training of
Trainers, Supervision, Technical and analytical.
·        
Clear
knowledge of Western Region and the locally spoken languages will be an added
advantage.
