IT Jobs – Quality Analyst at ThoughtWorks

Job Title: Quality
Analyst
Organisation: ThoughtWorks
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
About ThoughtWorks:
As we start to build our new office in Uganda, we are looking for
amazing people to join our team. We’re looking for experienced QA/testers to
join our team. Now, being a ThoughtWorks tester is a little bit different to
that role in most organisations. Testers are involved from the initial
requirements gathering, through implementation to deployment. One of the team
is always around to ask the awkward questions and try the scenarios that our
analysts or developers are unlikely to dream up. They are involved when
analysts are capturing requirements in the form of user stories. These stories
are then converted into acceptance tests outlining specific scenarios. Testers
play a big part in making sure those tests are well defined and complete so
that developers know when they have finished implementing the functionality
defined in a story.
From a humanist perspective, we’re committed to using the power of
technology to improve our world. Our Social Impact Program is led by a set of
experts who combine a passion for social change with real-life experience in
technology design, delivery and deployment in the developing world.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Practical testing
across a whole range of functional and cross-functional tests
  • Bringing an
exploratory testing approach, not just working to test plans
  • Demonstrating
    strategic thinking when developing tests
  • Testing multi-tier
    web-based and mobile applications
  • Understanding of full
life cycle development, from the requirements gathering to delivery
  • Spotting failures,
identifying root-causes, and defining corrective actions
  • Spotting when test
automation will bring value to the process
  • Working closely with
developers, business and other quality analysts and clients in a highly
    collaborative environment
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
  • Strong collaboration
skills, especially when it comes to working with developers
  • Experience maintaining
and evolving legacy test environments using continuous integration
    practices
  • Several years of
experience as a tester/QA delivering high-tech software projects
  • Experience with test
automation tools (like Watir, Selenium, Fitnesse, QTP and others) and
    frameworks (like Cucumber or Capybara)
  • Notions of
configuration management, like SVN and GIT
  • Familiarity with
    automated deployment processes
  • Experience of, or an
interest in working in an an agile environment
  • Influencing skills to
encourage clients to work in a more agile fashion
  • Understanding of OO
design. A strong background in software development would be interesting
  • A strong values
alignment to ThoughtWorks business and social mission
  • Good written and
    spoken communication skills.
