Summary:  
The Head of Barclays at
work will give strategic leadership to the Business in order to achieve overall
business objectives
  • Develop
    & execute product, segment & channel strategies for Retail
    Business to remain competitive in the market & achieving income target
    Month on Month.
  • Ensure
    consistent balance sheet growth for both assets & liabilities via
    placing efficient growth & retention strategies.
  • To
    provide strategic support to Retail Director in managing overall Retail
    income targets
Key
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Business  Management- 35%
With input from the Retail
Director, agree targets and take accountability for the overall achievement of
performance objectives for the Segment in terms of:
  • Employee
    Satisfaction
  • Customer
    experience
  • Sales
    growth, income contribution & manage impairment
  • Costs
    performance
  • Risk
    and rigour management
  • Cascade
    sales targets and reach agreement with individual Barclays at Work
    Relationship Managers and Head of Mortgages. Also include agreement with
    the Retail Banking management structure on how targets are to be cascaded
    to distribution, Local Business and premier centres.
  • Develop,
    ensure implementation and review methods of improving operational
    efficiency within Retail home loans and scheme loans front office and Securities
    within Service delivery.
 Budget accountability:
  • Accountable
    for achieving annual sales targets as agreed. Such targets in include
    product lines utilized and income generated. Monitoring of progress
    towards achieving targets is done on a monthly basis.
  • Cost
    centre owner for the Barclays at Work unit in-country, within overall
    annual cost budget as agreed with the Retail Director. Items over budget
    have to be referred to the Retail Director.
Brand,
product and business proposition:
  • Provide
    clear direction to Head of Mortgages and Barclays at Work Relationship
    Managers business objectives.
  • Based
    on analysis of customer requirements (as a result of formal customer
    research or informal customer feedback), request that new products within
    current ranges, or new product ranges from the current set available in
    Barclays Retail in-country, be added to the portfolio of products the
    segment can offer. Interact with the Barclays at Work team in the region,
    as well as in-country product teams to identify such improvements.
  • Arrange
    implementation of new product sets with assistance from specialist product
    managers and ensure that Relationship Managers and the home loans team are
    prepared for the implementation.
  • Work
    with in-country marketing to produce annual marketing plans to support
    Barclays at Work and home loans.
  • Occasionally
    contact key B@W companies to resolve particular service issues or to
    support sales initiatives.
 2.  Team / People Management – 30%
  • Build
    and motivate a high performing team committed to achieving consistently
    high levels of success
  • Develop
    and agree individual and team performance objectives and measures
  • Provide
    regular review of individual and team performance against agreed
    objectives.
  • Clearly
    define service objectives, standards and strategies for Home loans and
    scheme.
  • Provide
    ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Identify
    development/training plans to satisfy those needs and meet customers’
    expectations.
  • Manage
    succession, leave and rotation programmes.
  • Manage
    staff disciplinary issues.
  • Initiate
    discipline charges when required. Follow the discipline process, together
    with HR and an independent chairperson. Dismissals are signed off by the
    functional head.
  • Motivate
    staff and ensure they are recognized through the Barclays Africa
    recognition schemes.
3. Service Management – 20%
  • Be
    the first point of contact/escalation/resolution of customer issues
  • Develop
    and negotiate step improvements in the Home Loan product and scheme
  • Monitor
    and influence achievement of agreed service standards with Service
    Delivery, Credit Risk and Securities.
  • Monitor
    systems and operational standards to ensure high quality service levels.
4. Contribution to the Team
-5 %
  • Share
    knowledge experience and best practice with team members, branch managers
    and the broader business.
  • Interact
    with internal service providers to ensure a high level of customer
    service.
5. Risk and Compliance-10 %
  • Interface
    with the Risk function at the country Head Office home loan and scheme
    applications in cases where the B@W RMs and Head of mortgages are unable
    to achieve their desired results.
  • Review
    Risk Event Reports raised and provide guidance for future prevention.
  • Initiate
    and regularly update plans for reduction of provisions/impairment. This
    role is directly accountable for the quality of the debtors’ book for B@W.
Qualifications,
Skills & Experience:
  • Awareness
    of Barclays Africa Retail strategy
  • Understanding
    of the Retail and Service Delivery proposition and services
  • Understanding
    of support systems e.g. Flexcube  etc
  • Knowledge
    of the Bank’s bookkeeping procedures and systems.
  • General
    knowledge of services and functions of Head Office and branch network.
  • Detailed
    understanding of the bank’s Performance Management model
  • Understanding
    of the local competitor market
  • Extensive
    knowledge and understanding of the Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines and
    practice
  • Understanding
    of the home loans and scheme market and marketing strategies.
