Job
Summary:
The
Communications Officer will offer technical support the implementation of World
Vision Uganda (WVU) strategy through the development of appropriate
communication resources to profile the brand and visibility of WVU.
  
Key
Duties and Responsibilities:
1.     
Emergency
Communication:
  • Collecting
    stories, taking photographs, video clips during emergencies:
  • Writing
    impact stories, Situation Reports (Sitreps), updates, Q & As,
    selecting photos and writing captions.
  • Dispatching
    the stories, photos, video clips and captions to World Vision relief
    website, Digital Media Centre WV Photo Library), Support Offices (SOs),
    WVU website, social media networks and local newspapers.
  • Making
    arrangements for media visits and WV VIP visits
  • Arrange
    press conferences on emergencies and support framing of advocacy messages.
  • Donor
    and public engagement communications
  • Making
    arrangements for and with SOs visits to WVU to gather information
  • Writing
    high impact stories, taking and editing photographs and video clips for
    SOs, website, local newspapers and social media.
  • Dispatching
    the stories, photos and captions to World Vision Support Offices (SOs),
    WVU website, Digital Media Centre WV Photo Library), social media networks
    and local newspapers.
  • Arranging
    visits of SO film crews and foreign media and accompanying them in the
    field.
  • Providing
    any other information required by Support Offices. 
2.    
Internal
Communication:
  • Day-to-day
    management of WVU website, social media networks.
  • Supporting
    other divisions/functions document project/program experiences, publicize
    their work in the media and share on WVU website, social media networks,
    and with SOs
  • Support
    to other WV Uganda departments with editing, photography, publications,
    media and production of IEC materials.
  • Support
    People & Culture Division with the production of National Director’s
    monthly communication to staff
3.    
Others:
  • Participate
    in the communications department planning meetings, and other divisions to
    coordinate and give support to communications related activities.
  • Offer
    technical support planning and arrangements for WVU public events in
    particular regarding the production of IEC materials and media coverage.
     
Qualifications,
Skills & Experience:
  • The
    applicant should possess a degree in Journalism or Communication
  • The
    job holder must be highly organized with attention to detail, have a demonstrated
    ability to exercise sound, independent and professional judgment. 
  • Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills as well as ability
    to work within and across teams and with all levels of staff and
    stakeholders
  • Excellent
    writing skills
  • Knowledge
    of technical aspects involved in the production of different public IEC
    materials. Willingness to assume duties and responsibilities in all
    communications areas, as needed
  • Proven
    experience of photography and videography skills
  • Strong,
    working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and familiarity
    with using social media networks
  • Creativity,
    a positive attitude, enthusiasm and interpersonal skills.
  • Experienced
    and enthusiastic communication professional who is a strategic thinker, a
    relationship builder, a planner and an implementer who will be able to
    complement other members in the team
  • Must
    be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
