About IDI:
IDI is a centre of excellence, which is part of Uganda’s preeminent
medical training institution, the Makerere University College of Health
Sciences.  IDI is registered as a non-government organization, is owned by
Makerere University, and is funded by both public and private resources. 
IDI’s focus is strengthening care and treatment of HIV and related infectious
diseases – for people living with HIV across Africa. Since its
establishment, IDI’s mandate has expanded to cover HIV prevention, malaria, TB
and capacity building in research and laboratory services.  IDI supports
Adult Safe Male Circumcision as part of HIV prevention across eight districts
in Uganda. The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) supports roll out of Adult
Safe Male Medical circumcision services as part of HIV prevention across eight
districts in Uganda (Kampala, Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Hoima, Masindi, Kibaale,
Buliisa and Kiryandongo).
 Job Summary:  The Clinical Officer will form part of the
SMC clinical teams across the supported districts.



Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Carry out safe medical circumcision
    surgery for adults at respective fixed or mobile sites.
  • Make certain of the documentation of all
    surgical and follow-up procedures in the centres.
  • Ensure that circumcisions are carried out
    safely in accordance with agreed policies.
  • Ensure that all SMC activities are done
    according to the standard operating procedures and ethical requirements.
  • Participate as a full member of the surgical
    teams during SMC procedures
  • Willingness to support other project
    related duties as required.



Qualifications, Skills &
Experience:
  • The Clinical Officer needs to hold a Diploma
    in Clinical Medicine and Community Heath
  • At least two years work experience
    preferably in a circumcision surgical setting
  • The applicant must have attained formal
    training in SMC service delivery from a recognized institution will be an
    added advantage.
  • Additional training in provision of
    comprehensive HIV/AIDS services will be an added advantage
  • He/ She should be registered with the
    Allied Health professionals’ Council
