About MELTC:
Mt. Elgon Labour-based Training Centre (MELTC) is a Project under the Ministry of Works and Transport. It is a Training Centre located 20 kms from Mbale town along the road to Budadiri; adjacent to Uganda Technical College, Elgon. MELTC has classrooms, offices, service yard, a kitchen, laundry room, dining hall, recreation room and hostels with boarding facilities for trainees. The training conducted at MELTC is both classroom and field based.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise, manage and maintain the kitchen and its assets to ensure hygiene, safety and adequacy for all planned training activities and other operations:
  • Supervise the Support staff responsible for the hostel, laundry and compound to ensure that the compound, hostel rooms and the laundry are kept clean and tidy stall homes;
  • Arrange for the fumigation of the entire premises against mosquitoes and other pests in accordance with environmental regulations;
  • Supervise, appraise and report the performance of the Support staff to the Principal of the Centre;
  • Manage the catering services contract to ensure that the services offered by the caterer are in line with the contractual terms and conditions;
  • lnform Management in time of the requirements needed prior to the start of a Training program;
  • Manage the Security services contract to ensure that the premises are secure at all times and that the services are performed in line with the contract agreement:
  • Manage the buildings at the Centre and inform management of any repairs and/or maintenance that need to be done;
  • Manage the motor vehicle fleet at MELTC to ensure that all vehicles are appropriately serviced, repaired, assigned duties, monitored, fuelled and maintained;
  • Manage the Gravity Water scheme to ensure that MELTC has clean water at all times and inform management in time of any repairs that need to be undertaken;
  • Ensure that MELTC has a regular power supply by liaising with UMEME in case of power cuts and ensure that the MELTC Generators are in proper running condition at all times;
  • Arrange for external hotel accommodation for trainees and other MELTC visitors when required:
  • Coordinate transport of trainees between training/model road, hotel and the Training Centre;
  • Liaise and coordinate with management the welfare of trainees while at the Training Centre; and
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Principal.  
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
  • All candidates should be Ugandans holding at least a Higher Diploma/Degree in Hotel /Hospitality Management from a recognized Institution or University.
  • Experience of at least 5 years in similar assignments and should be at least 35 years of age.
