Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is a semi-autonomous agency under the
Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities. UWA was established in 1996 and
is managed in accordance with the Wildlife Act Cap 200. The Mission of UWA is: “To
Conserve and Sustainably Manage the Wildlife and Protected Areas of Uganda in
Partnership with Neighboring Communities and Other Stakeholders for the Benefit
of the People of Uganda and the Global Community.”

Job Summary: The Director Finance and Administration will
be responsible for the development and implementation of adequate financial
systems and procedures that conform to the professional standards and support
the core finance and administration functions of UWA.

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Developing and putting in place financial
control systems and procedures in accordance with government regulations
and professional accounting standards. - Ensuring preparation of annual accounts
within the statutory deadline in accordance with professional accounting
standards and prepare quarterly reports. - Working closely with the office of the
Auditor General for the conduct of audits and preparation of audit reports
in accordance with professional accounting standards. - Tasked with ensuring preparation of annual
budgets and departmental plans that optimise the resources available to
the financial commitments of UWA in line with the stipulated guidelines. - Undertaking an advisory role to both the
Board of Trustees and Management on the financial performance of UWA in
accordance with the approved budgets and reporting guidelines. - Supervising the maintenance of accounting
records, vouchers and other documentation and record all financial transactions
of UWA in line with financial procedures and accounting standards. - Responsible for cross-checking that all
the financial commitments and payments by UWA are properly authorized,
settled in a timely manner, in accordance with approved financial procedures. - Supervising the collection and banking of
all revenues due to UWA in accordance with the financial procedures. - Ensuring preparation of Business Plans in
order to identify and focus on the strategies to achieve financial
sustainability in line with the strategic plan. - Preparing annual and quarterly work plans
and quarterly performance reports - Provide advice to UWA Management and Board
of Trustees on the financial performance of UWA in accordance with the
approved budgets and reporting guidelines. - Undertake routine review of cashflow needs
and advise on potential investment of surplus funds. - Supervising and ensuring appraisal of
staff in Finance and Administration department. - Perform any other duties that may be
assigned by the supervisors from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The applicant must hold an Honors
Bachelor’s Degree in either Commerce, Business Administration or any other
relevant Degree from a recognised University or Institution. - Possession of full Professional Accounting
qualifications such ACCA CPA is a must. - Possession of a Masters Degree in Business
Administration or a related field from a recognised University or
Institution is a must. - A minimum of eight years’ experience in
Finance and Administration, three (3) of which should have been served at
Senior Managerial level. - Good knowledge of the principles and
practices of running a government body or an agency like UWA and the rules
and procedures that govern Uganda Wildlife Authority. - Broad knowledge and understanding of
accounting principles and computer skills in accounting software. - Excellent analytical and presentation
skills with ability to drive a directorate to successful accomplishment of
the financial objectives. - Excellent report writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and
negotiation skills. - Concern for quality and standards;
