United Nations IOM Internship Jobs – Public Information Intern at International Organization for Migration

Reports to: Chief of Mission
Duty Station: Uganda
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • The
    intern will serve as the focal point for all matters pertaining to the
    visibility of IOM and its work in Uganda.
  • The
    intern will assist to develop appropriate tools to ensure that information
    from all units is available to the team for use in programming and
    planning of activities across units.
  • Assist
    to write, edit and disseminate public information material for IOM press
    briefing notes, human interest stories, photos and video news stories for
    the website. Liaise with the relevant Units to obtain briefs, background documents
    and related material for different meetings/events, as needed.
  • Utilize
    online social media communication tools (including, but not limited to,
    Twitter, YouTube, etc) to communicate on IOM’s work in Uganda.
  • Assist
    to develop newsletters, both electronically and in print for the promotion
    of all IOM projects and partner activities.
  • Participate
    in mission key events and workshops, and undertake field missions as
    needed in order to acquire material, including photographs of work being
    undertaken by the field, that would promote IOM with donors and
    governments.
  • Assist
    to coordinate media related matters, including news stories and feature
    articles for IOM’s global and country websites.
  • Participate
    regularly and actively in the UN Communications Group meetings and
    activities
  • Assist
    to coordinate and draft IOM internal periodic reporting
  • In
    coordination with the IT assistant, assist to update and develop IOM
    Uganda’s website; http://uganda.iom.int
  • Perform
    such other duties as may be assigned.
 Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
  • Diploma
    in mass communication, public information, public relations, journalism or
    communications
  • Capacity
    to work independently; able to carry out tasks with attention to detail;
    and demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and confidentiality;
  • Required
    IOM functional competencies: effective communicator, successful
    negotiator, creative and analytical thinker, active learner, team player,
    and cross cultural facilitator.
  • Good
    computer knowledge in MS Office packages is mandatory.
