About USDC:
The Uganda Society for Disabled Children (USDC) is a Ugandan based NGO committed to recognising and equalising the rights of children with disabilities.
USDC exists to help children with disabilities and their families’ access resources and opportunities to enable them to achieve their full potential. USDC, along with our UK based Partner organisation AbleChildAfrica, will be implementing a new three year project with funding from the Department for International Development (DFID/UK Aid).
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Coordinator to lead an innovative Inclusive Education project across 3 districts in the West Nile and Northern regions of Uganda. The project aims to bring Inclusive Education to some of the most marginalised children in the area using a participatory Child to Child approach. This approach puts children at the heart of all activities, including the identification and engagement with out of school disabled
children in their communities, and believes children can be powerful advocates to improve understanding of disability in their schools and communities
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Project Management
  • You are the main point of contact and lead personnel ensuring the effective delivery of the project
  • Implement and monitor a project plan for the three year project life cycle in line with the outputs set out in the DFID log frame
  • Regularly review project timeline, deliverables and planned project activities; ensure timely delivery and coordination of all project work streams concurrently.
  • Line manage the 3 District Project Leads (Parent Support Group Focal Persons) and 9 Master Trainers across the respective districts and project schools to effectively and timely deliver project activities
  • Provide quarterly, mid-term, annual and end of project narrative and financial project reports to USDC headquarters and Able Child Africa against proposed project activities
  • Support the development of project materials, toolkits and trainings alongside Child to Child consultants
  • Provide effective support to all project stakeholders including government, schools, teachers, parent support groups, children, child to child consultants and communities across all three districts
2. Communication and Coordination
  • Implement and coordinate district level steering committees for the project, one per each project district.
  • Maintain very regular contact with 9 project schools and the Master Trainers (MTs) to ensure quality delivery of project and ensure effective networking across MTs by providing linkages and networking opportunities.
  • Lead on effective liaison with a range of internal project stakeholders; USDC headquarters, UK partners & donors.
  • Coordinate and facilitate high level meetings with external stakeholders; including national and district level government bodies, Kyambogo University and DFID Uganda.
  • Maintain regular communication with local and district level Parent Support Groups and support the PSG Focal person for each of the 3 project districts
  • Participate in regular meetings with District Disability Council and CBR groups for each district- build relationships with key stakeholders and ensure coordination of the project with ongoing local priorities and activities to ensure sustainability of project and its results.
  • Proactively communicate with USDC HQ to communicate progress of the project, highlight potential risks or delays and mitigate challenges.
3. Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Ensure that robust M&E frameworks are in place and review achievement against DFID Log frames on a weekly basis
  • Support in the design and implementation of monitoring frameworks and tools (including baseline analysis, KAP survey & other monitoring tools)
  • Ensure regular tracking of project progress at community level, school, district and national levels
  • Organize the collection of, and synthesize and analyze data from, the 9 project schools and other project activities.
  • Assess data collected and project development so as to take initiative and suggest amendments to project activities/log frame or to the budget to ensure the effective delivery of the project
  • Conduct quarterly monitoring visits to all schools, teachers and communities in the project districts
  • Conduct monitoring visits to Kyambogo University and National level government stakeholders twice per year.
4. Advocacy
  • Develop a project communication and advocacy strategy to identify media and stakeholder engagement opportunities across the three year project as well as assigning roles and responsibilities to project staff; oversee the production of monthly media messages in each district
  • Arrange and coordinate Project Launch and Project End events to bring together key officials from district and national level and to engage communities in the project.
  • Facilitate quarterly meetings with parent support groups, District Disability Council meetings, District level CBR Committee meetings, and government officials.
  • Lead in the identification of key project stakeholders and continue to build relationships with them through monthly communications, meetings and facilitate visits to the project schools.
  • Instate/reinvigorate District Councils for Disability meetings and attend quarterly meetings at district level.
5. Financial Management
  • Oversee project finances including managing budgets and funds, timely and accurate submission of financial requests and reports to USDC headquarters
  • Manage project budget and review income and expenditure regularly, advice on potential risks and proactively mitigate challenges
  • Provide financial information to USDC accounts team at HQ on a weekly basis and submit financial project reports on a quarterly basis throughout project life cycle
  • Maintain a close overview of funds received and disbursed to districts, coordinate the submission of financial reports and expenditure status
