Job Summary: The job holder is responsible
for liaising with Save the Children staff, partners and relevant external
publics to originate and coordinate the production of informative and educative
communication materials on issues about and of concern to Save the Children
with the view of enhancing the profile of the organisations work . The
Specialist may be called upon as and when necessary to support the emergency
team in cases of humanitarian crisis.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Social
    Sciences, Social Work and Social Administration, Development Studies,
    Education. Post graduate training in a relevant discipline is an added
    advantage.
  • At least 5 years progressive experience in communication and
    media relations in an international NGO.
  • Good knowledge of the local, international media and
    communication dynamics and the UN system.
  • Good and demonstrated understanding of Child rights issues in
    Uganda and in the NGO world.
  • Accurate, punctual and quality driven, with strong ability to
    give attention to detail.
  • Ability to document and transform experiences from the field into
    lessons learnt.
  • Skills of political analysis, sensitivity and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated understanding of current political situation
    necessary to effectively and tactfully capture news from our field work
    and package it for a variety of purposes and audiences.
  • Experience of working with local partners and District Local
    Government in Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education,
    HIV/AIDS or Child Protection program delivery as may be applicable to the
    job.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations
    and perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas,
    occasionally under strenuous conditions.
  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of
    humanitarian responses.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in
    an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and
    cultures
  • Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as
    necessary.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including
    influencing, negotiation and coaching
  • Excellent time management and planning capacity
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of
    humanitarian responses.
