About ASARECA:
Our client, The Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) is a sub-regional not-for-profit association. It was established in 1994 by 11 member countries represented by their national agricultural research for development institutes.  The major objective of ASARECA is to develop policies and programs aimed at deepening co-operation in agricultural research and policy among its member countries for the mutual benefit of all the stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
·         Receive periodic reports from stakeholders, review and provide feedback on the quality of the reports in consultation with the programme manager;
·         Assist the manager to prepare draft synthesis reports, drafts of contract agreements and letters of requests for services;
·         Together with the manager develop requests for research calls/ proposals and send them out, receive applications and prepare the evaluation forms that are used for selection;
·         Coordinate workshop duties/activities i.e. drawing up a list of invites, prepare the workshop budgets, draft invitation letters and programme, repertoire, compile workshop publications and proceedings, facilitation;
·         Receive and follow up of the sub-grant financial accountabilities and forward them to finance;
·         Advise sub-grantees on compliance to ASARECA financial requirements and sub-grant agreement;
·         Together with the manager ,prepare annual work plans and budget for the program in consultation with the Programme Manager
·         Assist in consolidating programme technical reports into the corporate annual report;
Together with the manager consolidate project and programme work plans into corporate work plans;
·         Assist in preparing manuscripts for journal publication and scientific conferences; and
·         Assist to carry-out Monitoring and Evaluation of projects in liaison with the manager and the M&E implementation unit.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The successful candidate will have:
·         Five (5) years of experience in a research environment preferably in agricultural oriented organizations serving in the areas of gender mainstreaming in middle level management;
·         Demonstrated progressive experience in administrative services;
·         Should have excellent planning and coordination skills , analytical problem solving, basic financial management and presentation skills; and
·         Must be very computer literate specifically in MS office suit packages.
We are looking for a candidate with a Masters of Science in Agriculture or any other related field with a focus on Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Agricultural Economics and Social Economics. A PhD would be an added advantage.
