Job Summary: The Credit Manager, Business Lending is a key position of FINCA UGANDA’s IL credit operations.  This role is designed to ensure proper implementation of the IL credit policy and ensure that credit staff has the capacity to deliver these products in a highly efficient and profitable manner that creates an overall positive customer experience throughout the loan cycle. Will also be responsible for continuous review, improvement and development of product, credit analysis, delinquency management, and credit Staff trainings.
The Credit Manager, Business Lending strive to ensure that the company presents characteristics consistent with a credit ethos that will win community trust, respond to client needs and raise client awareness regarding the opportunities that FINCA credit product can provide.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
 The Credit Manager, Business Lending will be accountable for:
  • Work on a daily basis with the staff in the branches in close coordination with the respective RM.
  • Make sure every branch staff understands his/her role in the BL Credit Manual (i.e. BL LOs, BL SPV, BM, CCO, BOS and teller) by holding meetings, giving individual explanations and granting individual training
  • Mentor LOs on the loan analysis handbook by accompanying them at business and home visits, and other activities (such as follow-up and confiscation). Make sure LOs fully understand the loan analysis and are able to carry-out high quality assessments and well excellent loan proposals to the credit committee.
  • Mentor the SPV and BM to assure they are able comply with their responsibilities, in particular their archiving, supervision and credit committee chairing role
  • Be present in the CC to assure high quality CCs and good decision making, i.e. a active and critical level of discussion, compliance with approval ratios and understanding of the graduation principle (of rewarding and punishing depending on the credit history)
  • Make sure the BL Credit Manual is well maintained and all BMs know how to coordinate all the feedback from the field staff for the policy update.
  • Make sure BMs, SPVs and LOs use the BL Credit Manual as a working basis.
  • Make sure all documents and forms which are required according to the BL Credit Manual are available to the respective branch staff in all branches. Interact with the administration department in case of problems to solve shortcomings. All BMs need to have a softcopy of all documents and forms on their computers and have to be able to print them.
  • Supervise and control compliance to the BL Credit Manual by every branch staff; especially by LOs in regards to loan analysis and proposal, and by SPV and BMs in regards to approval restrictions (ratios), supervision duties, handover, clustering, archiving and SAS (PAR) and all other duties described in the BL Credit Manual
  • Discuss and gather feedback for policy improvement with the branch staff and RM; channel the feedback to the COO for product improvement
  • Control efficiency and effectiveness of the IL Credit Manual in the field and propose improvements to COO
  • Identifying staffing needs and coordinating with the HRM and actively participating in the recruitment process for IL credit staff as either part of the hiring committee and/or hiring approval process
  • Coordinating with the Training Manager to build credit staff competency, designing courses and conducting training where required
  • Develop strategies for portfolio growth and client outreach in existing and new regions.
  • Other duties may be assigned where appropriate.
Supervisory Responsibility: For credit related issues/initiatives, the Credit Manager, Business Lending closely works with Regional Managers and/or Branch Managers to ensure first-rate implementation and performance of FINCA UGANDA IL credit operations.  The Credit Manager, Business Lending will evaluate Branch Managers on their performance related to credit Committee responsibilities and operations.  In this context, the Credit Manager, Business Lending will be required to provide guidance and support in all areas of credit including technical aspects to enable credit staff to properly oversee the implementation of products and deliver on actual product performance (Growth and PAR).  
  
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelors Degree in Business, MBA a plus
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point. 
  • 5 years of relevant experience, 3 of which in banking and credit development focused
  • Strong credit analysis skills and experience   
  • Exposure to microfinance
Key Deliverables:
  • Implement SME lending profile.
  • Ensure the IL credit policy is up-to-date, understood by all employees, and properly implemented.
  • Develop specific key market growth and outreach strategies and work with the COO (Head of Business) , Regional Managers, and Branch Managers to implement.
  • Ensure information from marketing is acted upon to improve product policies and delivery.
