About
APCA:

The African Palliative Care
Association (APCA) is a young, dynamic and fast growing non-governmental
organisation leistered in Uganda with an Africa-wide mandate to promote and
support access to affordable and culturally appropriate palliative care
services for people with life-threatening illnesses, such as HIV/AIDS, cancer
and other non- communicable diseases, and their families. APCA exists to ensure
that palliative care is underpinned by evidence, widely understood and
integrated into all health systems in order to reduce pain and suffering across
Africa.

Job
Summary:
The
Communications Officer will be responsible to generate a consistent, compelling
suite of communications that will engage diverse audiences with APCA and with
palliative care as a discipline.

Key
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To
    engage in the implementation of, APCA’s communications strategy and to
    support the production of excellent multimedia communications materials,
    ensuring consistency and clarity of message.
  • To
    edit written documents provided by partners in accordance with the APCA
    style guide.
  • To
    provide organisational support for data asset management systems
    including: management of photo cataloguing, contact databases and CRM.
  • To
    implement the membership strategy and increase active membership
  • To
    liaise with the media and undertake public relations (PR) activities to
    increase APCA’s general profile and promote specific advocacy messages
  • To
    contribute to the development and implementation of a media and social
    media communications strategy.

Qualifications,
Skills & Experience:

  • At
    least five years’ experience in a communications field with demonstrated
    experience in writing for the media (both print and online) and a Master’s
    degree in communications, international development or human rights
    preferred.
  • Candidate
    should have demonstrated experience in editing, designing and implementing
    a social media strategy, brand building, communication across multimedia
    platforms and social media engagement.
  • Ability
    to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, excellent organisational
    skills and attention to detail, a motivated self-starter, photography
    skills, proficiency in MS Office, HTML, and CMS software, outstanding
    written and oral communication skills, with French speaking skills an
    added advantage.
