About Maxwell Stamp PLC:
Our client Maxwell Stamp PLC provides technical support to the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) to implement the Expanding Social Protection (ESP) Programme in Uganda with support from the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and Irish Aid. The ESP programme is a 5 year programme within MGLSD which was launched in 2010 and is coordinated by the Social Protection Secretariat. It includes a pilot cash transfer scheme, (SAGE) providing regular cash transfers to older persons and vulnerable families living in chronic poverty in 14 pilot districts.
Maxwell Stamp PLC is now seeking to fill a number of regional accountant positions, initially for a period of 6 months but with the possibility that they will be extended up to February 2015.
One accountant will be based in each of the following locations: Apac, Amudat, Kaberamaido, Katakwi, Kiboga, Moroto, and Nebbi. Some regional travel is anticipated.
Job Summary: The accountants will report to the Finance and Administration Manager in the Social Protection Secretariat in Kampala and will be responsible for managing a bank account, preparing and accounting for expenditure, managing advances to staff and other people, paying bills and maintaining proper accounting records of the programme expenditure.
Key Duties & Responsibilities: The work will include the following duties:
·         Support Maxwell Stamp’s district operations, working with Maxwell Stamp’s district teams and also interacting with Local Government Officers;
·         Processing requests for funds, making payments to suppliers by cheque ensuring compliance with Maxwell Stamp’s accounting policies and procedures;
·         Managing the bank account, preparing monthly bank reconciliations;
·         Coding expenditure, recording in field accounts maintained in Excel, keeping proper accountability of records;
·         Managing advances to staff chasing and product Accountabilities;
·         Preparing monthly reports, monitoring expenditure against budget, responding to ad hoc queries requests for information;
·         Perform additional tasks as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·         Significant experience of keeping financial act and managing bank accounts;
·         A part qualified accountant, (ACCA or equivalent an appropriate degree-level qualification in finance
·         Completely familiar with double entry bookkeeping techniques;
·         Competent in using Microsoft Excel;
·         Good communicator, able to explain decision a clear manner, able to work with people to ensure compliance with financial procedures;
·         Extremely high levels of honesty and integrity;
·         Highly motivated, with strong initiative and judgment;
·         Strong written and spoken English.
