World Vision Jobs – Communication and Public Relations Manager

Job Summary: To provide strategic communications direction and support to World Vision Uganda, through creating, implementing and overseeing communications and public engagement programmes that effectively describe and promote the organization’s visibility and its mission to children, their families and communities.
About World Vision:
World Vision Uganda is a Christian Relief, Development and Advocacy Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice in over 40 districts of Uganda. World Vision is committed to the protection of children and does not employ people whose background is not suitable for working with children. Our prayer for every Heart, the will to make it so.” World Vision Uganda is seeking to hire qualified persons to fill the following positions.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Leadership:
·         Lead the development and implementation of an integrated strategy for the building of a high-performance communications function that is managed, structured, focused and staffed for productive and quality work.
·         Engage with the National Director and senior leadership in strategic communications planning and processes that support their objectives, strengthen the organization, raise public awareness and help children thrive.
·         Lead, support, coordinate and supervise the work of communications officers in producing targeted stakeholder communications plans and products for a range of projects and campaigns.
·         Oversee the development and management of the communications department budget
2. Planning and Strategic role:
·         Engage with the WV Uganda National Director and senior leadership in strategic communications planning and processes that support their objectives, strengthen the organization, raise public awareness and help children thrive.
3. Internal Communications Management:
·         Develop and deliver an internal communications strategy to ensure staff and volunteers across WV Uganda and the partnership at large are informed and engaged with the organisation’s work.
·         Establish systems and safeguards for the appropriate and effective flows of relevant information to and from World Vision Uganda staff when required.
4. Donor/Public Engagement Communications Management:
·         Manage the planning and production of compelling and issues-oriented fundraising, advocacy and publicity materials (web-based, electronic, print and video) for effective donor and public engagement
·         Oversee the consistent and timely offering and production of feature stories and photos for sharing with World Vision Partnership and stakeholders.
·         Ensure that stories, photos and other materials are produced to standards of quality required for informing, educating and engaging said donors and publics via Partnership websites, magazines, adverts, donor appeals, media releases and other communications channels and outlets.
5. Media Communications Management:
·         Oversee in-country media engagement to generate proactive and positive news coverage as well as opportunities to raise the visibility of World Vision Uganda (WVU).
·         Prepare and position WVU for important media opportunities and interviews that promote and protect the public image and ministry of World Vision, while raising public awareness on key issues of poverty and justice.
·         Develop a crisis communications management plan to protect the reputation of World Vision Uganda from actual or potential media crisis.
6. Emergency Communications Management:
·         Plan and manage communications in response to both slowand rapid-onset emergency disaster/relief situations
7. Advocacy Communications Management:
·         Collaborate with advocacy department in defining key issues, messaging, and identify appropriate communications channels for public advocacy initiatives.
·         Support advocacy campaigns by engaging the media to gain exposure and credibility and increase public discussion and fundraising
·         Guide the partnership on sensitivities regarding the organisation’s work in the area of advocacy communications
8. Development Communications Management:
·         Analyse, recommend and roll-out strategies for improving efficiency of national/government, district and community level communication for behaviour and community-led social change related interventions.
·         Advise training needs to build capacity in participatory & behaviour communication at various community and leadership levels, in support of programme sustainability.
9. Quality Assurance:
·         Ensure National Office adherence and alignment to communications policies, protocols, standards and branding
·         Support and ensure that all communications to various stakeholders, media and public are aligned to World Vision International quality and brand.
·         Support the Program Managers and their teams in addressing alignment, compliance and quality issues and needs of National Offices related to communications during humanitarian emergencies 
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
·         A Degree or equivalent in journalism or communications/public relations.
·         At least five years professional experience in journalism or public relations is preferred.
·         English language fluency (written and verbal).
·         Excellent writing skills, with photographic and/or video skills also preferred.
·         Demonstrated ability to think and manage strategically, plan and meet deadlines.
·         An energetic, analytical and self-starting approach to projects that involve significant responsibility.
·         General experience in project management, with specific experience in the production of diverse and creative communications projects including publications, multi-media, websites/pages, photo and video reports, etc
