About ASARECA:
Our client, The Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) is a sub-regional not-for-profit association. It was established in 1994 by 11 member countries represented by their national agricultural research for development institutes. The 11 member countries are: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Southern Sudan.
The major objective of ASARECA is to develop policies and programs aimed at deepening co-operation in agricultural research and policy among its member countries for the mutual benefit of all the stakeholders in the agricultural sector. Key Duties & Responsibilities:
·         Receive periodic reports from stakeholders, review and provide feedback on the quality and gender disaggregation of the reports;
·         Prepare draft synthesis reports, drafts of contract agreements and letters of requests for services;
·         Responsible for developing requests for research calls/ proposals and send them out, receive applications and prepare the evaluation forms that are used for selection;
·         Receive and respond to inquiries from different stakeholders pertaining to the unit’s work;
·         Coordinate workshop duties/activities i.e. draw up a list of invitees, prepare the workshop schedule budgets, draft invitation letters, repertoire, develop/compile workshop materials, publications and review proceedings and facilitation;
·         Receive and follow up of the sub-grant financial accountabilities and forward them to finance;
·         Prepare annual work plans and budget in consultation with the Head of Unit;
·         Responsible for consolidating Unit’s technical reports into the corporate annual report;
·         Consolidate Unit’s work plans into corporate work plans;
·         Prepare publications for scientific conferences;
·         Responsible for carrying out Monitoring and Evaluation of projects in liaison with the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
The successful candidate will have:
·         Five (5) years of experience in a research environment preferably in agricultural oriented organisation serving in the areas of gender mainstreaming in middle-level management;
·         The person must have experience of research in gender disaggregation and gender focused research with vast knowledge of socio-economic and gender analysis tools as well as demonstrated progressive experience in administrative services;
·         Should have excellent planning and coordination skills, analytical and problem solving, writing, basic financial management, communication, representation and presentational skills; and
·         Must be computer savvy specifically in MS Office suite of packages and especially versatility with Microsoft office Excel;
·         We are looking for a candidate with a Masters degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, or in any other related field.
Other Relevant Information:
The position is offered on a contract basis initially for a period of twenty four months and renewable subject to annual performance review and availability of funding; and
The remuneration package is comparable to those offered by similar organizations and includes a competitive salary, medical insurance for self and family, allowances as well as an excellent support for career progression.
