NGO Deputy Executive Director Job at AFENET

Organisational Context: The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is interested in recruiting a Deputy Executive Director. The main function of the position will be to provide support to the Executive Director’s office, and Head the Science and Public Affairs Unit of the organization.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
·         Delegated authority to act on behalf of the Executive Director in his/her absence;
·         Represent the organization to the public, key stakeholders and partners;
·         Provide guidance for fundraising and donor management, business development and partnership activities;
·         Provide guidance for program activities including outreach, volunteer coordination and partnerships development, as well as marketing, media relations, and public relations;
·         Ensuring identification of public health problems pertinent to the population;
·         Manage the preparation of written and oral reports and presentations that communicate necessary information to professional audiences, policy makers and the general public;
·         Manage the implementation of operational and financial plans;
·         Manage the preparation of proposals for extramural funding;
·         Serves as a mentor, coach and guide to senior staff within AFENET;
·         Any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. Certifications, License, Physical
Qualifications, Skills & Experience Required:
·         The minimum educational requirement is a Masters degree in Public Health with five years of experience working within public health at the state or national level.
·         Post graduate training in business, management or public administration OR experience in lieu of qualification will be an advantage..
·         Good knowledge of MS Office programs like Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Experience:
·         Experience working in an NGO setting for at least three years and served at mid or top managerial level for at least one year
·         Experience applying for, managing and accounting for grants
·         Experience in the basics of accounting and financial management, auditing regulations and fulfilling project targets
·         Conversant with human resource management in small and medium sized organizations
·         Involvement in advocacy campaigns for training programs and preferably field epidemiology training programs.
Knowledge of these Crucial:
·         Knowledge of local and federal laws and regulations; of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership techniques; of accounting, budgeting and financial principles; and of the principles and practices of public administration and management.
·         Knowledge of the complexities of field epidemiology training and the ability to identify and evaluate training opportunities.
·         Knowledge of a range of donor guidelines including but not limited to USG regulations including USAID 22 CFR 226 and 228, OMB Circulars; European Union; the Gates Foundation and others.
·         Ability to direct and organize program activities; to establish program goals and objectives that support the strategic plan; to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions; to develop and evaluate policies and procedures; to direct the development of policies and procedures; to prepare concise reports; to make presentations and; to communicate effectively; and to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.
NB: Remuneration: Competitive based on qualification and experience.
