Job Summary: To inspect factories and equipment, and disseminate agro-technical knowledge to coffee farmers, processors, exporters and roasters.
About UCDA: Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) was established by a statutory mandate in 1991 and as amended in 1994. The Statute mandates UCDA to: “Promote and oversee the coffee industry by supporting research, promoting production of clean planting materials, controlling the quality and improving the marketing of coffee in order to optimise foreign exchange earnings for the country and payments to farmers”. In order to fulfill its mandate, UCDA wishes to recruit self-motivated and committed persons to fill the position above;
Duties and Responsibilities:
·         Inspect and evaluate coffee buying stores, primary processing factories, export grading factories and roasters.
Advise sector participants on good handling, processing and storage techniques.
·         Train factory personnel in good processing skills and maintenance of factories.
·         Carryout regular field quality evaluations to determine Coffee out turn and screen size distribution.
·         Register and keep an inventory of buying
·         stores, primary processors, export grading factories, exporters and roasters.
·         Prepare monthly technical reports in line with established reporting guidelines.
·         Carry out trouble shooting at factory level and assess the performance of machines.
·         Liaise with local authorities like LCs and DPC and other organisations like NEMA in order to ensure that processing factories conform to the law.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The suitable candidate must be ready to work upcountry, and should have:
·         A Bachelor of Science degree (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering;
·         At least 3 years’ working experience in a relevant field;
·         Personal initiative;
·         Good team work and interpersonal skills;
·         Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
