Senior Program Officer – Senior Conservation Enterprise at AWF

For more than 50 years, the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) has been a key player in African Conservation and sustainable development. AWF is currently seeking a talented professional to support its conservation enterprise management activities for ongoing enterprises and initiate new conservation enterprise development initiatives within the T4B Program, Uganda.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief of Party, T4B Program, the Senior Program Officer, Conservation Enterprise (SPOCE) will develop and lead implementation of the T4B Program enterprise strategy; monitor the performance and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of AWF’s support to conservation enterprises. The SPOCE will identify new conservation enterprise projects through research, development, and testing of enterprise options aimed at improving the economic returns to local communities, including strengthening linkages to sustainable markets for rural communities. This position will execute all due diligence and business planning processes for new enterprises, and, develop and structure all approved conservation enterprise projects aimed at improving marketing of tourism enterprises at national level . The SPOCE will manage and monitor all ongoing conservation enterprise projects; ensure timely reporting to the relevant officers and donors as well as perform other enterprise management and project implementation activities as requested by supervisor. This position will be based in Kampala, Uganda with frequent travel to project sites.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
The successful candidate will;
·         Have a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Enterprise Development, Project Management, Economics or related field; or a Bachelors’ degree in the above mentioned fields with at least 5 years direct experience in Enterprise development.
·         At least 5 years expertise in enterprise development in remote areas, and proven experience in implementing successful enterprise activities in challenging conditions.
·         Have demonstrated experience in project management including delivering under tight deadlines.
·         Have demonstrated experience working in the field with local communities and private sector operators.
·         Have the ability to understand the market constraints faced by local communities, and to identify innovative new approaches that will enable local rural communities to access markets in urban/regional centers.
·         Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
·         Strong interest in and understanding of conservation.
·         Willingness to travel to remote areas of the Uganda.
·         Outstanding interpersonal skills
