Project Officer Child Development and Sponsorship Career Job at Agency for Accelerated Regional Development (AFARD)

Work station:  Nebbi district but resident in Payera – Erussi project area, Uganda
The Agency for Accelerated Regional Development (AFARD) is a local, non-governmental organization currently operating in the districts of Nebbi, Zombo, Yumbe, Arua, and Moyo in the West Nile sub-region of Uganda among rural marginalized and vulnerable communities. AFARD envisions a “prosperous, healthy and informed people of West Nile”. AFARD is implementing Payera Community Development Project with the aim of improving the socio – economic livelihood of at least 1,000 households in Erussi sub – county, Nebbi District with specific emphasis on Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) and their families through holistic empowerment initiatives through Self Help Groups that enhance self-reliance through income generation, training, capacity building, sensitizing and empowering of the community members to adequately take care of their children well-being.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Main Duty: Assist the Project Coordinator in planning, implementing, managing, coordinating, monitoring and evaluation of all the activities within the assigned sector in the project;
  • Ensure timely, accurate, complete and consistent correspon­dences between children in the project and their foster parents, as per sponsorship guidelines provided
  • Maintain and update data on all sponsored children within the project area, design child monitoring tool and regularly monitor all sponsored children..
  • Ensure that the SHGs approach is integrated in children and youth groups in the project area.
  • Liaise and consult regularly with the Project coordinator, relevant government departments, non-government organiza­tions, churches, local leaders, community and beneficiary leaders, and other concerned parties, in relation to lobbying and advocating for children’s rights.
  • Coordinate mobilization of activities of the marginalised individuals and groups using the Rights Based Approach (RBA), to enable them identify, assess, and analyze viable activities geared towards self-reliance;
  • Prepare periodic work plans and budgets (with the support of the Project coordinator ) for the sector assigned and other related activities a liaison with other section heads, to ensure appropriate utilization of project resources;
  • Coordinate and consult closely with the beneficiaries and local leaders to ensure optimum utilization of items, implements and/or ideas provided, and for planning, monitoring and evaluation of project activities;
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Social Works and Social Administration.
  • At least a one year experience with Child Sponsorship project.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and computing skills.
  • Ability to work as a team, drive an automobile, negotiate, network, report, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Knowledge of the local Alur language is a must.
