Uganda Careers & Jobs at Dutch Embassy – Senior General Affairs Officer (SGAO)

Location: Kampala, Uganda
Our client, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is looking for a senior officer that will work in the general affairs section.
The Senior General Affairs Officer (SGAO) will be responsible for a smooth handling of general affairs. He /she is responsible for financial and personnel administration, logistics, maintenance of office and residences of expatriate staff. He or she is heading a team of 6 Support Staff (drivers, cleaners and handyman). He/she will report to the head of Internal Affairs but is able to work independently. The general affairs and consular section is working in close cooperation with the Regional Support office in Pretoria.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1.      Financial administration: registration of payments; implementing cheque and cash payments;
2.     Salary administration of local staff members; compiling PAYE overviews as well as preparing NSSF contributions;
3.     Support to expatriate staff including immigration and customs procedures;
4.     Supervision, planning and monitoring of duties of support staff (cleaners, drivers, handyman);
5.     Support in the field of accommodation/housing: responsible for timely maintainance of the office and staff residences in cooperation with landlords and staff members;
6.     Other duties: keeping up to date the leave and absences administration; inventories; claiming and monitoring VAT-refunds; replacing consular front desk officer, etc.
Qualifications, Skills and Work Experience
a.      Business degree with a bias in management and administration;
b.      At least five years of progressive experience working in a related field; advantage if in a similar organization;
c.       Some knowledge of project management is required
d.      Fluency in English (knowledge of Luganda and/or Dutch is an advantage).
e.      Knowledge of computers, internet, Windows NT, MS Office 2010.
f.        A team player who is an excellent communicator.
g.      He/she is very well organized and takes initiatives to get his/her work done.
h.      He/she is also service oriented and has a strong commitment to delivering quality work.
i.        He/she should maintain high legal, social and ethical standards in his/her work.
