Farm Manager Job Vacancy at National Livestock Resources Research Institute (NaLIRRI)

Title: Farm Manager (1 vacancy)
The National Livestock Resources Research Institute (NaLIRRI) with the main institute located at Tororo and with some activities at Serere and Namulonge, is one of the Public Agricultural Research Institutes(PARIs) mandated by the 2005 Act of Parliament to undertake, promote, coordinate and ensure dissemination and application of research results in livestock and apiculture. NaLIRRI invites applications from competent Ugandans to fill the Position above;
Duties and Responsibilities:
·         Directing and coordinating activities of agricultural worker, such as planting, irrigation, chemical application, harvesting, grading, payroll, and record keeping.
·         Planning finances and production to maintain farm progress against budgeted parameters;
·         Coordinating a wide range of farm preparation activities such as ploughing, farrowing, weeding and spraying as well as harvesting and post-harvesting activities.
·         Monitoring and documenting land use, fertilizer application as well as the quantity and quality of produce, whether crops or livestock Monitoring and inspecting cultivated fields to determine maturity of crops and to estimate potential yields or crop damage from the weather, pests or diseases.
·         Understanding weather patterns and its implications and making contingency plans if the planned activities cannot be carried out; Establishing marketing channels, conferring with buyers and arranging for sale of farm products
·         Protecting the environment and maintaining biodiversity. Coordinating the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, machinery and equipment;
·         Participating in multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement and evaluate strategic management plans, in order to improve performance standards. Developing appropriate networks with farmers and other stakeholders to ensure implementation of effective programmes that enhance organisational effectiveness.
·         Maintaining records of all aspects of operations in the farm and also preparing monthly progress reports and annual technical services reports showing achievements against planned targets as well as providing justification for performance variances.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
·         Diploma in Agriculture
·         BSc in Agriculture will be an added advantage.
·         Three years working experience in farm management and research extension.
