Finance and Accounts Assistant Job Vacancy at African Palliative Care Association (APCA) in Uganda

The African Palliative Care Association (APCA) is a young, dynamic and fast growing non-governmental organisation registered in Uganda with an Africa-wide mandate to promote and support access to affordable and culturally appropriate palliative care services for people with life-threatening illnesses, such as HIV/AIDS, cancer and other non- communicable diseases, and their families. APCA exists to ensure that palliative care is underpinned by evidence, widely understood and integrated into all health systems in order to reduce pain and suffering across Africa. APCA invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following positions based at the head office in Kampala, Uganda.
Job summary: The Finance and Accounts Assistant under the direction of the Finance Officer provides support to the Finance Department in finance management and accounting.
Duties & Responsibilities
·         Raising payment vouchers for all approved funds requisitions, maintaining a good filing system for the payment vouchers and all supporting documents.
·         Maintaining petty cash, making petty cash payments and timely cash replenishment and ensuring all supporting documents are attached to the petty cash vouchers.
·         Posting transactions in the QuickBooks system in a timely manner.
·         Checking bank balances and ensuring there are enough funds on the bank account before raising payments.
·         Prepare the payroll on a timely basis and compile returns for statutory deductions like NSSF, PAYE, WHT, LST) and ensuring that payments are made and returns are filed promptly.
·         Raising payroll journals and monthly reconciliation of payroll control accounts (NSSF, PAYE, Net pay) and withholding tax account.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
·         Bachelor’s degree in commerce (B.COM) or BBA or an accounting- related field.
·         At least 3 years working experience in a busy NGO. Salary.
